Penthouse Spa Hamaam
The Villa Marco Polo Inn was closed from October 2007 through March 2008, during which time bathrooms were upgraded, decor was fine-tuned, and the heretofore-unused third floor was transformed into a spa and healing space. The recently opened Penthouse Spa Hamaam provides yet another space in which Villa guests can relax, meditate, practice yoga, and best of all, enjoy various treatments provided by qualified massage practitioners and estheticians.
Our efforts to remain as green as possible carry through to the Spa Hamaam. Towels are made from a combination of bamboo and green cotton; incredibly soft blankets are spun from bamboo. The Spa Hamaam features Silk Road and SeaFlora products, local companies that use organic locally produced and sourced materials. Seaweed is harvested at Whiffen Spit, off the southern coast of Vancouver Island, by the parent company, Outer Coast Seaweeds. Although Silk Road imports specific teas for their products, other product ingredients are local and organic.
We have avoided plastics unless absolutely necessary: our pedicure basins are Deruta pottery from Italy. Rather than electric heating units on the massage tables, our practitioners use flax seed warmers. We make ample use of steaming towels, steeped in tea or herbal essence. Our yoga mats are made of hemp, and the blocks are cork rather than petroleum derived plastic.
Throughout the house, we make every effort to “practice greenness.” The spa is a centre of healing and wholeness and slowing down; we welcome you to take a break in these soothing surroundings.
